Altri optimises M365 and digital culture with CMaaS

Altri is a leading European company in the production of eucalyptus pulp, sustainable forest management and energy production through cogeneration and the use of biomass.

Listed on the Lisbon stock exchange, where it is part of its main index, the PSI-20, Altri is a leading European producer in the paper pulp sector, and is one of the most efficient producers of bleached eucalyptus pulp in Europe. It currently has three paper pulp mills - Celbi, Caima and Celtejo - with a nominal annual capacity of over one million tonnes.

Forest management is another core activity for Altri, which manages around 83,500 hectares of certified forest in Portugal. Forest self-sufficiency is around 20%. At the same time, the company has a surplus in the production of electricity through renewable-based industrial cogeneration. Altri currently sells around 500GWh of electricity from the cogeneration process.

The challenge

In line with current trends, and assuming that companies will be increasingly dependent on digital platforms, Altri sought to consolidate its Digital Workplace, optimising communication, collaboration and modernising work processes.

Therefore, taking into account the different work profiles at Altri, distributed across different geographies and considering the small initiatives to introduce the tool previously carried out, the challenge was to manage change and adopt the technology in an as-a-service model that would guarantee not only the adoption of the technology, but also the transition to an increasingly digital organisational culture.

With the Change Management as a Service (CMaaS) service, the work themes and consequent initiatives to address them were identified:

  • Ensure employee mobility - First Line Workers
  • Innovate and automate business processes based on the Power Platform

The solution

As an as a Service model, CMaaS allows you to define specific work themes that support the transition and creation of a digital culture.

At the same time, and considering structured and continuous work, it allows promoting this transition with greater impact, efficiency and adoption rates.

The solution involved the continuous and structured adoption of a tool already present in the organisation: Microsoft 365.

An initial six-month period was set to work on the main topics associated with Microsoft 365, covering specific issues through regular initiatives. Familiarity with other Microsoft applications helped the group's 652 employees to take greater advantage of the potential of these collaborative tools, together with experience in Office 365 adoption projects, which provide a greater guarantee of increased collaborative work.

The result

For Miguel Coelho, IT Director at Altri, the partnership with Claranet aims to increase the company's capacity for innovation and dissemination of good practices.

With the adoption of Microsoft 365 in the CMaaS model, many internal processes are now executed more quickly, and communications and information are also shared immediately and in a decentralised manner.
